WHO AM I?俺はダレ?
DO WHAT I WANT.
THAT'S ALL.
That's him.
And then?
Keep running.
Stop, and everything turns into the past.
Because you move, you get to make a future and a past.
This moment, right now, is not a given.
No time for things I don't want to do.
Seriously.
I'm Kouichirou Matsuda.
Still doing the artist thing today.

On air
The firecracker kid of 30 years ago,
paying his grandmother back at 100.
From what started back home in Saga to the work of today. The background behind the pieces, and what matters when making things. Appearances in TV, magazines and web media are listed as they come. * Placeholder text
Reviving shops outside the city
You have the room.
It just isn't full.
Run a small shop outside the city on food and drink alone and it gets hard, fast. What worked in my own places in Fukuoka and Saga was using the walls and the shelves to earn money that has nothing to do with the menu.
Rent the space to artists. Pull people in with a show. Put things on the shelf and sell them. Put those three together and the same floor area earns an order of magnitude more. I bring that build, exactly as I run it in my own shops, to yours.
-
01
Turn walls and shelves into income
The empty wall, the unused shelf, the fixture nobody moves. All of it can be rented. How many faces, at what price, on what cycle — I draw the whole rental model from scratch.
-
02
Bring people in with a show
Exhibitions, pop-ups, apparel projects, vintage events. Built so each one feeds the next, not as one-offs. Who to approach, how to word the call, how to fill it — we do that together.
-
03
Make how it looks, and what it sells
Site, logo, photography, print. Apparel is produced in-house, so original merchandise can be made on the spot. No agency in the middle, so it is faster and cheaper.
What it has done
- A space rented for 55,000 yen a month
- 340Kyen / mo
- Production revenue, T-shirt project
- 900Kyen
- Vintage event tied to in-store retail
- 800Kyen / mo
A long pop-up: 30 artists at 10,000 yen a month each, plus a margin on what sold.
30 to 40 artists, 12 pieces each, all produced in one run.
Run alongside the shop's own apparel sales, which pushed the month up.
How it goes
- STEP 01
Tell me where you are
Revenue, fixed costs, what is not working. Start by saying it plainly.
- STEP 02
See the shop
Walls, shelves, how people move, what is nearby. We find what can be rented and when it is free.
- STEP 03
Draw the numbers
What gets rented, at what price, for how much a month — costs of each project included.
- STEP 04
Run the first one together
I stay beside you for the first project. Once the method sticks, you run it yourselves.
Fees depend on the size of the shop and how closely I work with you, so start by telling me about it. The first conversation is free.
Talk about reviving your shopProfile

KOUICHIROU MATSUDA.
An artist born and raised in Japan.
Artwork is the core. From there the work spreads into apparel OEM and manufacturing, running his own brand, art cafés in Fukuoka and Saga, and bonsai.
Based in Ogi, Saga — where his roots are.
The genres differ, but the work is one and the same. Face the material, move your hands, and make something that keeps the mark of those hands. The artwork, the products, the shops and the bonsai all sit on that same line.
